RAF Cosford Aluminium Display Cabinets

Idea Showcases designed, manufactured and installed a complete exhibition display system for the Defence School of Photography at RAF Cosford. From the outset, the project required a clean, structured and highly visual environment. Therefore, we focused on creating a space that both educates and engages visitors.

To achieve this, we delivered a fully coordinated solution that combines aluminium display cabinets, central display counters and large-format graphic information boards.

Aluminium Display Cabinets

First, we installed a continuous run of aluminium framed display cabinets around the perimeter of the room. This approach creates a clear layout while guiding visitors naturally through the exhibition.

We used low iron glass throughout the cabinets to maximise clarity. As a result, cameras, lenses and artefacts appear sharp, bright and true to colour.

In addition, we integrated LED lighting within each cabinet. This lighting evenly highlights every shelf and ensures consistent visibility across the full display.

To provide flexibility, we included adjustable glass shelves. Consequently, the team can easily update and rearrange exhibits as collections evolve.

Central Display Counters

Next, we introduced central island display counters to maximise the use of floor space. These counters create strong focal points while allowing visitors to view items from multiple angles.

We matched the finishes with the perimeter cabinets to maintain a consistent and cohesive design. As a result, the entire space feels unified and professionally presented.

Integrated Graphic Information Boards

Along the rear wall, we installed full-width graphic timeline and information boards. These boards add depth to the display by providing context and storytelling.

As visitors move through the space, the graphics guide them through the history of military photography. Therefore, the exhibition delivers both visual impact and educational value.

A Complete Display Environment

Overall, this project highlights Idea Showcases’ ability to deliver complete display environments. We combined modern materials, precise detailing and practical layouts to create a space that works on every level.

The final installation RAF Cosford Aluminium Cabinets presents military photographic history with clarity and structure. At the same time, it offers a professional and engaging environment tailored perfectly to RAF Cosford.
